Our time here is brief, yet we try to make the most of it. We build the structures, both literal and metaphoric, that define our lives and try to imbue them with function as well as beauty. But then time comes with its rust and decay, eroding our best efforts. It’s easy to believe with the ancient writer that “All is Vanity.” Still, our lives would be impoverished without the effort.
